The Fine Staff of Mount Rose Animal Hospital

Lisa Carter

After trying other jobs that just didn’t seem to fit, Lisa decided to try to realize her dream of working with animals.  Not sure where to begin, she applied to several veterinary hospitals.  She got her feet wet in veterinary medicine starting out as a receptionist for a small animal practice.  After a few years, once she was comfortable in that position, she realized that she really wanted to pursue training to become a veterinary technician.  After gaining some technician experience in a general practice, she was offered a technician position in the ICU of a critical care facility.  She jumped at the opportunity, knowing that knowledge and training could not be passed up.  Her heart was still with general practice, however, and after a year in the ICU, she decided to go back to a daytime small animal practice.  Now a part of the Mount Rose Animal Hospital team, she looks forward to taking care of both you and your animals.  She is dedicated to making sure both of you have the best experience possible during your visit.

When Lisa is not taking care of client’s animals, she is often home with her own four “children”.  Her family includes a feisty calico named Sushi, a VERY domestic shorthair cat named Marley, an adorable little Westie named Tobe, and her newest addition—a cute little kitty named Butters.  She is also hoping to become a skier, having only recently hit the slopes of Mount Rose a couple times — despite being a Reno native!  Lisa is a homebody at heart, however, and loves nothing more than watching movies with her husband Sean and her pets.

Lisa is currently enrolled in the veterinary technician program through Cornell, and she is very excited about becoming licensed.  It is something she has been anxious to begin, and a goal she can’t wait to achieve.

Kim Lhamon

Kim began working with animals while she attended High School, volunteering at the local animal shelter in San Clemente, California.  After graduating she soon took a position at the San Clemente Veterinary Hospital, where she stayed for over four years.  She then acquired a position at Aliso Beach Animal Clinic in Laguna Beach where she stayed for nine and a half years as a veterinary technician.

Kim has fostered and rescued many wayward animals and was chosen by one of the top Jack Russell Terrier breeders in the United States to save sickly or runt newborn pups.  This required months of bottle feeding any many sleepless night.  She has enjoyed working with small domestic animals and a wide variety of wildlife over the years including lions, baby seals, raccoons, red-tailed hawks, ducks, and a coyote to name a few.

Kim moved here in September 2004 along with Julian, her dog, Pete & Floyd, her cats, Big Mama & Little Joe, her water turtles, Moe, an ornate box turtle, Flip, her cockatiel, five fish, and she even brought her husband Rick, who had to ride in the back on the way to Reno.

Kim loves the outdoors and spends much of her free time in the mountains.  Camping, trout fishing , hiking, and riding on her quad-runner are a few of her favorite activities.

Kim is very much looking forward to meeting and working with new friends and establishing bonds with clients and their pets.

Kevyn Funk

As an only child, with a small extended family, pets were always a huge part of Kevyn’s life while growing up.  Her cats provided companionship and served as playmates throughout the years, and becoming a veterinarian was always her dream job as a child.

During her senior year of high school, she was offered a job at a local veterinary hospital, where she worked as a receptionist and veterinary assistant for three years.  This job made her realize her love for learning about medicine and helped her gain experience in customer service as well as animal care.

From there, her growing interest in medicine and general biology took her in the direction of trying to work in a human medical environment.  After about a year, she realized that veterinary medicine is where she preferred to be, and she quickly found a job at Mount Rose Animal Hospital as a receptionist.

Kevyn just finished her final year at the University of Nevada Reno, where she earned her bachelor degree in biology and is excited to continue her education in biological studies.

Kevyn enjoys spending time with her miniature pincher Pippen, and she also enjoys snowboarding, camping, and traveling whenever possible.  She looks forward to meeting you and your pets and will help make your visit exceptional with great customer service!

Suzy was born and raised in Redwood City, California, with her older sister.  Having had a variety of pets growing up, it was clear at an early age that since all her best friends had fur, she would one day grow up to work with animals.  Going vegetarian at age 13, she made an early and lifelong commitment to animals and the environment.  She is an avid recycler, and she makes sure that at Mount Rose Animal Hospital, everything that CAN be recycled DOES get recycled, by taking Dr. Baker on monthly trips to the recycling center.

Suzy got her start working with animals at age 18, when she started working at boarding kennels in Colorado.  She then moved back to the Bay Area at age 19, where she got her first real break at a veterinary hospital in Portola Valley, California.  She started as a kennel attendant and got to help up front when it was busy.  Two years later, she was the lead assistant.  Although she loved Portola Valley, she needed to expand her knowledge , so she moved out on her own and headed to Santa Cruz, California.  At Santa Cruz Veterinary Hospital, she was exposed to many new experiences that began her love of emergency medicine.  The next 5 years of her life were dedicated to emergency medicine and critical care.  It was very rewarding to her, but she missed all those healthy, happy little puppies and kittens.  Being on the Mount Rose Animal Hospital team now gives her the opportunity to play with all the cute little ferrets and pocket pets as well.

Suzy now lives very close to her mother in Carson City, Nevada, with her dog Beebs and her cat Drake, who are the best of friends.  When Suzy is not working, you can usually find her at home watching movies with Drake and The Beebs, or cooking a  vegetarian feast for her family and friends.  She also enjoys organic gardening in her back yard.  There is nothing better to her than eating sun-warmed veggies right off the plant.  Hiking and camping are other summertime pastimes of hers.  In the winter, however, you will find her wherever it is warm.  She will always be a California girl at heart.  Suzy is currently in school to earn her Veterinary Technician license, which she has always wanted and is very excited to achieve.

Suzy looks forward to meeting and helping you and all your furry family members.
