Dr. Katie Weldon was born and raised in San Francisco, and was the youngest of five children, having three sisters and one brother.  She initially considered becoming a veterinarian when she was 6 years old and all the neighborhood animals would come over to play with her.  She went to college at Pacific Lutheran University in Washington, where she began her studies as a nursing student, but then quickly realized that small animal veterinary medicine was her true calling.  After gaining early admission to the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine, she left the west coast and ventured east to begin her studies.  While in Pennsylvania, Dr. Weldon had many exciting experiences that made her the doctor she is today.  After assisting with a dental and tooth extractions on a tiger, she was ready to take on any challenge.

Dr. Weldon returned to the west coast after receiving her VMD and decided to settle down in Reno, Nevada where she had family.  She worked at Kings Row Pet Hospital for 10 years where she perfected her techniques and developed the compassionate care-giving philosophy which is now a part of Mount Rose Animal Hospital.  Co-owning and operating a hospital of her own has been a dream many years in the making.  Although starting a brand new hospital has been an exciting challenge, Dr. Weldon looks forward to developing doctor-patient relationships with the family pets of South Reno and the surrounding areas.

Dr. Weldon’s interests lie in soft tissue and orthopedic surgery, as well as in the care of exotic pets such as ferrets, rabbits and rodents.  She is one of the few doctors in the Reno area with experience in cryosurgery for the treatment of adrenal disease in ferrets.

Dr. Weldon lives in Reno with her husband, Eric, their son Zachary, Ringo the cat, and Eric’s pet fish.  She enjoys skiing, SCUBA diving, traveling to warm, tropical places, and sleeping (if she ever gets the time).
