Take Home Care after Spaying or Neutering |
|
The recovery period of a neutered or spayed pet is generally two weeks. During that period of time, it is important to restrict your pet’s activity. In other words, no running, no jumping, no crazy play while the incision is attempting to heal! It is important to check the incision regularly to be sure of appropriate healing. Any abnormal swelling, redness or drainage is worthy of a veterinary recheck examination. Lastly, pets are sent home with oral pain medications; that way, when the injectable pain drugs from surgery wear off, you still have safe medications to administer to your pet to keep them comfortable during the recovery period at home. Remember, if you have any questions during your pet’s recovery and healing time, please do not hesitate to call the hospital. It is better to catch a problem or an infection sooner, rather than later. |
